Mirae Asset Targets $109 Billion Crypto Business Around Rebranded Exchange Digital X

South Korea’s Mirae Asset Financial Group outlined a $109 billion digital-asset business around rebranded exchange Digital X, targeting stablecoins, tokenized real-world assets and security token offerings — with profitability slated for 2027.

Mirae Asset Financial Group plans to build a 150 trillion won ($109 billion) digital asset business around Digital X, the Korean crypto exchange formerly known as Korbit, according to The Block, citing The Korea Times.

Founder and Chairman Park Hyeon-joo laid out that ambition at a Seoul employee event on Wednesday titled “A New Voyage Begins, Together.” The target works out to roughly 10% of the 1,500 trillion won in client assets the group already manages.

Four product lines sit under the plan: crypto, stablecoins, real-world-asset tokenization and security token offerings. Gold, silver and electricity top the tokenization list, The Block reported.

Mirae Asset Consulting, a group affiliate, took a 97.15% stake in Korbit in a deal valued at about 141.4 billion won ($102 million). South Korea’s Fair Trade Commission cleared the transaction on July 9, according to Bitcoin.com, citing the Korean Herald. The exchange was subsequently renamed Digital X.

Korbit, founded in 2013, held roughly a 0.5% share of Korea’s crypto trading market in 2025, per FTC data cited by Bitcoin.com. That footprint trails Upbit and Bithumb by a wide margin.

“Our initial goal is to make Digital X a core pillar of ‘Mirae Asset 3.0’ and grow the digital asset business to 150 trillion won by leveraging the group’s 1,500 trillion won in client assets,” Park said, per The Korea Times via The Block.

The “X” in the rebrand, Park told employees, stands for “an uncharted future and the limitless possibilities created when different forms of value intersect and converge,” Bitcoin.com reported.

Mirae Asset is weighing up to 300 billion won ($218 million) in additional capital for the business. A 200 billion to 300 billion won third-party allotment could come as early as the first quarter of 2027, The Block reported. The group aims to make the digital asset unit profitable by 2027, Park said.

Notably, that profitability target predates any revenue disclosure from Digital X itself. Neither source published current earnings figures for the exchange.

Mirae Asset has cast Digital X as infrastructure, not a volume-chasing exchange. The company said it has no interest in overtaking Upbit or Bithumb on trading, Bitcoin.com reported, framing the platform instead as an “intelligent investment” stack that pairs research and investor education with institutional-grade compliance: anti-money-laundering checks, know-your-customer verification and fraud detection.

“Trust takes a lifetime to build but can collapse in an instant,” Park said, addressing the compliance push, per Bitcoin.com.

The longer-term play is a global platform built around Digital X that combines traditional and digital assets. Mirae Asset already launched its Mirae Asset Portfolio Service in Hong Kong to integrate both for global clients, according to Bitcoin.com.

The group reported roughly $1 trillion in client assets under management as of May 2026, Bitcoin.com noted. The 150 trillion won target, about $109 billion, would put the digital arm at a tenth of the existing book.

Traders, as ever, will watch the 2027 profitability line.
