MetaMask Integrating 200+ Tokenized US Stocks via Ondo Finance; ONDO Gains 3%

MetaMask integrates Ondo Global Markets to offer 200+ tokenized US stocks and ETFs to non-US users, driving ONDO up 3%.

MetaMask users in eligible non-US jurisdictions can now trade Tesla, Apple, and Nvidia stock directly from their self-custodial wallets following a new integration with Ondo Finance. The feature, rolled out Tuesday on MetaMask Mobile, allows retail investors to swap USDC for tokenized representations of over 200 US securities and ETFs without opening a traditional brokerage account.

Market Reaction: Ondo Finance’s native token (ONDO) responded positively to the announcement, climbing 3.3% to $0.28 amid a broader market consolidation.

The Mechanism: USDC for Equities

The integration routes trades through Ondo Global Markets (GM), a platform that tokenizes public securities. Users execute trades via the MetaMask Swaps interface, converting USDC on the Ethereum mainnet into GM tokens that track assets like the Nasdaq 100 or commodities like gold and silver.

Unlike 24/7 crypto markets, these specific trades are bound by traditional liquidity windows. MetaMask confirmed trading is available from Sunday to Friday during Eastern Time market hours. While the settlement happens on-chain, the underlying assets are held in traditional custody arrangements managed by Ondo’s broker-dealer partners.

“Bringing Ondo’s tokenized US stocks and ETFs directly into MetaMask shows what a better model looks like. A single, self-custodial wallet where people can move between crypto and traditional assets without intermediaries and without giving up control.”

Regulatory Constraints & Rollout

Access is geographically geofenced. The service explicitly excludes users in the United States and 30 other restricted jurisdictions to comply with securities regulations. The current rollout is limited to the mobile app, with desktop browser extension support scheduled for the end of February.

This move places MetaMask in direct competition with centralized exchanges that have historically offered tokenized stock products, though often in custodial environments. By keeping the assets in the user’s wallet, Consensys is betting on a shift toward on-chain portfolio management that treats Apple shares and Ether with the same custodial logic.
