Solana Mobile Sets Jan 21 for SKR Launch; Saga Owners Excluded from Airdrop
Seeker users secure 20% of the supply while Saga owners are cut loose, as Solana pivots to a ‘Guardian’ governance model involving Jito and Anza.
Solana Mobile has confirmed the official Token Generation Event (TGE) for its governance token, SKR, will occur on January 21 at 2:00 AM UTC. The launch activates the governance layer for the Seeker smartphone ecosystem, allocating 30% of the fixed 10 billion supply to early supporters.
The announcement establishes a new "Guardian" model for mobile app curation but deals a blow to owners of the first-generation Saga device, who are explicitly excluded from this airdrop round.
The Numbers: Supply and Distribution
The tokenomics structure favors Seeker hardware adoption over legacy support. According to the official disclosure, the breakdown is as follows:
- Total Supply: 10 billion SKR (fixed).
- Inflation: 10% in Year 1, intended to incentivize staking.
- Airdrop Allocation: 30% total. 20% is reserved specifically for Seeker users and developers; 10% has already been distributed.
- Initial Unlock: 2.7 billion tokens (~27%) will be liquid at TGE. The remainder vests over 18 to 36 months.
The "Guardian" Pivot
Solana Mobile is effectively replacing the centralized app store review board (Apple/Google style) with a delegated committee of crypto-native infrastructure providers. SKR holders will stake tokens to elect "Guardians" responsible for device verification and app store curation.
Confirmed launch partners for the Guardian roles include Anza, DoubleZero, Helius, and Jito. This moves the ecosystem away from pure DAO governance toward a representative model where technical entities enforce community standards.
"At launch, SKR serves as a growth and coordination mechanism: stake to Guardians, support builders, secure devices, curate the DApp Store," Solana Mobile stated.
Saga Support Ends
The starkest signal in the filing is the exclusion of Saga owners. While the original device drove the initial Bonk-led hype cycle, Solana Mobile is pivoting resources entirely to the Seeker infrastructure. The eligibility snapshot has already been taken; recent secondary market buyers of Seeker pre-orders are also locked out.
Market Reaction
Solana (SOL) showed resilience on the news, holding steady at $134.42 (+1.89%) as traders priced in the ecosystem value of the 100,000+ verified Seeker users. Volume across the Seeker ecosystem, which includes 265 dApps, topped $2.6 billion during "Seeker Season 1," suggesting the SKR token enters a market with established velocity rather than speculative vapor.
